Provide substation protection and control design, engineering, technical support, and oversight to a transmission substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality engineering and design services. Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems and solar collector substations. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline work for projects, perform responsible charge engineering duties, and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development and project cost estimating.

  • Advanced understanding of protection and control fundamentals for utility substation and transmission line equipment, including design and settings
  • Proficient in SCADA communication design
  • Lead engineering teams and manage projects
  • Knowledge of substation design principles and P&C design project scopes
  • Create P&C designs for utility stations up to 500kV
  • Perform coordination studies and reports
  • Oversee junior staff and mentor designers
  • Check designs for accuracy and adherence to standards
  • Collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
  • Visit sites to address engineering issues during construction
  • Manage project budgets and schedules
  • Other duties as assigned
Do you have the skills and knowledge required for this Licensed Engineer position?
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience as a practicing engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree from an EAC/ABET accredited Engineering Program OR an approved evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES OR graduation from a Master’s or Doctoral Program in Engineering from an institution with EAC/ABET accredited Undergraduate Engineering Programs
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or the ability to be licenses within one year
  • Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Hands on and experience in assembling mechanical components and parts
  • Experience in the utility industry is a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
